Recent Victories:
Prosecution of
Pornography: On July 26 the House of Representatives passed
H.R. 4710, the Illegal Pornography Prosecution Act, by a vote of 412-4.
Introduced by Rep. Steve Largent (R-OK), this legislation would authorize $5
million to the U.S. Department of Justice for prosecution of obscenity cases. The
goal of this legislation is to spearhead the Department of Justice into prosecuting
more hard-core pornography cases.
Religious Land Use:
The Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act
has passed both the House of Representatives and the Senate. This legislation
ensures that zoning laws cannot be used to discriminate against a religious assembly
or institution on the basis of religion, and that any land use regulation that imposes a
burden on a religious assembly or institution must meet a strict test of being the least
restrictive means available to meet the government interest.
Boy Scouts Rights of Exclusion:
The Supreme Court ruled that the Boy Scouts
had the right to exclude gays from leadership positions within the
organization.
The Clinton/Gore administration vetoed the Partial Birth Abortion Ban
The Supreme Court ruled that the Nebraska Partial Birth Abortion Ban legislation was unconstitutional.
The Clinton/Gore administration vetoed the legislation that would have repealed the Marriage Tax.
