Defending Family Values at national, state, and local levels

FVA Endorses Bob McDonnell for Lt Governor

The Family Values Alliance endorses Bob McDonnell for Attorney General  for the following reasons:

1.  His homepage [http://www.bobmcdonnell.com/issues/contentview2.asp?c=277] publicly professes sound family values:

In the House of Delegates, Bob is known as a leader on pro-family issues.
Since 1992, Bob McDonnell has courageously stood for our Virginia values by:

-  voting to protect the rights of parents to make education and health decisions for their children
-  sponsoring legislation to define marriage as between one man and one woman
-  helping make parental notification and informed consent the law in Virginia
-  making sure, as Chairman of Courts of Justice Committee, that the Partial-birth Abortion ban passed the legislature
-  voting to place the words “In God We Trust” in schools
-  sponsoring a bill to ban human cloning
-  sponsoring a bill to crack down on parents who don't pay child support
Because of his principled pro-family leadership, Bob McDonnell was named "Legislator of the Year" twice by the the Virginia Family Foundation and "Legislator of the Year" by the National Child Support Enforcement Association in 1998.

2.  Creigh Deeds' homepage omits posting his position on abortion, gay marriage, and special rights for homosexuals.

3.  NARAL Pro-choice Virginia, a leading Virginia pro-abort organization, endorses his Democratic opponent, Creigh Deeds [http://www.naralva.org/s04politicalupdates/press/200508171.shtml]

4.  Virginia Society for Human Life, a Virginia pro-life PAC, endorses Bob McDonnell. [http://www.vshl.org/elections/2005/2005_VSHLPAC_Endorsed_Candidates.pdf] & [http://www.vshl.org/elections/2005/2005_KILGORE_KAINE_comparison.pdf] for following reasons: Bob McDonnell, during his 13 years in the Virginia House of Delegates, has compiled a 100 % pro-life voting record.  He was co-sponsor of the Partial-Birth Infanticide Law and the 2004 Fetal Pain Awareness Bill.  McDonnell sponsored Parental Notification, Parental Consent, and Informed Consent Laws.  Creigh Deeds voted for amendments, which would
make meaningless the Partial-Birth Infanticide Law, the Parental Notification Law, and the Informed Consent Law.

5.  Virginia Partisans, an advocacy group for legitimizing sodomy, supports Creigh Deeds [http://www.vapartisans.org/pr061505.html]: "Republican Delegate Robert McDonnell, the Attorney General nominee, lead a one-man effort to promote discrimination in our state judiciary, blocking re-nomination of a state judge because he believed her to be a lesbian, calling into question her sexual behavior while dodging questions about his own.  He too opposed allowing companies the right to VOLUNTARILY offer health benefits to domestic partners if they so chose and has not even established a written nondiscrimination policy for his own office. While earning a ZERO score from Equality Virginia, he was twice selected "Legislator of the Year" by the extremist "Virginia Family Foundation.""

6.  From Equality Virginia, a leading Virginia advocacy group for legitimizing sodomy, Voter Guide [http://www.equalityvirginia.org/atf/cf/%7BF56F0407-AD15-456F-9A9E-EB9BC57B69AC%7D/EV%20October%202005%20Voting%20Guide%20Insert.pdf] "Bob McDonnell believes that marriage is between a man and a woman. Voted in favor of the proposed state constitutional amendment. Voted in favor of resolution urging Congress to pass Federal Marriage Amendment banning same-sex marriage and civil unions.  Creigh Deeds believes that marriage is between a man and a woman.  Voted in favor of the proposed state constitutional amendment.  Voted against resolution urging Congress to pass Federal Marriage Amendment banning same-sex marriage and civil unions.

7.  Per an 17 Oct, 2005 Associated Press Article Virginia AG Candidates Differ on Many Issues but Keep Tone Mostly Civil [ http://www.creighdeeds.com/php-bin/news/showArticle.php?id=58 ] : "Perhaps the greatest differences between the candidates are on social issues.  McDonnell has been among the General Assembly's staunchest abortion opponents. Deeds supported requiring parental notification when a minor seeks an abortion but has opposed some other restrictions, including parental consent.  Deeds also has been a vocal critic of government involvement in end-of-life decisions like the Terri Schiavo case while McDonnell has said state intervention to protect life is sometimes appropriate.

8.  Richmond Times Dispatch in a Oct 12, 2005 Article [http://www.timesdispatch.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RTD/MGArticle/RTD_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1128767485828]:  However (referring to Attorney General candidates), they disagreed on abortion. Deeds, an abortion-rights supporter, said he initially supported a ban on so-called partial-birth abortions but did not support subsequent legislation once the Supreme Court ruled that such restrictions were unconstitutional.  McDonnell, meanwhile, said he supported the ban and criticized Deeds for being out of touch with most Virginians on the issue. "I am in the mainstream and my opponent is just flat wrong and out of the mainstream," McDonnell said.
